Living Sustainably at Coppermaker Square

How we’re helping our residents live greener lifestyles

At Coppermaker Square, we’re passionate about our community and the impact we have on the environment. Our premium rental apartments in Stratford, East London, are designed and built with sustainability in mind, with a host of initiatives aimed at reducing our impact on the planet.

Energy efficient

Our contemporary designed rental apartments don’t just look good – they are also highly energy efficient, protecting the planet while keeping your utility bills under control. While an average household produces 6 tonnes of CO2, Coppermaker Square apartments only produce 0.7 tonnes.

Low-energy lighting and high performance glazing help contribute to our B EPC Rating, so you can enjoy the spectacular views across the Capital while staying warm. Our kitchens are also equipped with A-rated high-end appliances from AEG and Zanussi, making them super-efficient.

Zip car deals

Fancy taking a trip to the countryside or the coast this summer? Or just need some wheels for a few days? We offer residents three years’ free membership and £60 driving credit to car rental service Zipcar, giving you access to thousands of cars and vans nearby. A much cheaper option that owning your own car, Zipcar is also sustainable, offering users the choice of renting an electric vehicle, and ensuring there are fewer cars on the road.

On-demand rental

Through our TULU home goods rental service, Coppermaker Square gives residents access to the things they want or need, from vacuum cleaners to electric scooters. By sharing amenities with your neighbours you’re helping to:

  • Reduce emissions: fewer goods means less manufacturing, lower emissions and cleaner air

  • Cut landfill waste: by using high-quality products that have a much longer life span, fewer products are thrown away

  • Reduce energy use: all TULU products are energy efficient

Cutting our waste

Our waste is collected and managed by Suez, a pioneer in recycling and recovery that uses waste to generate electricity, manufacture alternative fuels and produce compost. In 2023, Suez recycled around 29 tonnes of waste collected from Coppermaker Square, and converted an average 68% of monthly waste into energy.

Swap shop

One person’s rubbish is another’s treasure – that is certainly the case at our Community Book Swap on Level 3, where residents can donate books and magazines they no longer want, in exchange for a new read. We have also hosted Clothes Swap events, in partnership with East London Waste Authority – a great opportunity to refresh your wardrobe for free, while reducing waste to landfill.

Charitable partnerships

We work with several local charities to support our communities and reduce waste. Through our partnership with Traid — which collects and sells second-hand clothing — we make it easy for Coppermaker Square residents to donate their unwanted items by providing designated collection points throughout our development.

To date, we have collected more than 300kg of used clothing, saving around 2.1 tonnes of CO2 and 411m3 of water. This diverts those materials away from landfill, promoting the circular economy. The clothing collected by Traid is then sold in its shops throughout London, from Camden to Brixton.

We have also hosted upcycling clothing workshops to inspire people to find creative ways to make the most of what they already own, reducing their carbon footprint. And in partnership with Trampery, Coppermaker Square has helped support aspiring fashion designers living in Newham, through a bespoke mentoring programme for 30 individuals under 30, all from under-represented backgrounds.

And it doesn’t stop at fashion – Coppermaker Square also works with London-based charity Furnishing Futures to give residents a chance to give lightly used homeware to families in need. Founded in 2009 in Leyton, East London, Furnishing Futures uses donations to create nurturing spaces for women and children who have experienced domestic abuse.

As part of further community outreach, Coppermaker Square contributes to a Newham-based charity which aims to ensure the continuation of crucial crime prevention programmes and youth initiatives.

Local suppliers

At Coppermaker Square, we love a good get together. As well as being a great opportunity to celebrate our vibrant community and meet your neighbours, it’s a chance to support local businesses – cutting down on food miles and emissions.

Our Coppermaker Square Big Weekender on 2nd and 3rd August will do just that, with drinks being provided by Stratford-based vendors. Award-winning brewpub and craft beer bar Tap East will be serving up a variety of beers alongside premium beverages from Bearded Man Cocktails. Look out for ‘The Coppermaker’ brew, a Coppermaker Square X Tap East collaboration that will debut at the Coppermaker Carnival on 3rd August!

Sustainable living

For those wishing to find new ways to reduce their carbon footprint, a Sustainable Living Guide is provided to all residents when they move in and is also available on the exclusive Resident App.

For example, residents have the choice to have a Smart Meter installed in their apartment to allow them to monitor and adjust their daily energy usage. So we can all do our bit.
