Community Partnership Secures Future of Vital Youth Club in Newham

Community Partnership Secures Future of Vital Youth Club in Newham

Coppermaker Square’s partnership with a Newham-based social support charity has delivered essential services to the area’s young community. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW)’s Coppermaker Square donated more than £16,000 to Bonny Downs Community Association (BDCA), a charity dedicated to community-driven initiatives, such as food banks, group fitness classes, and toy drives.

The funding—covering venue hire, refreshments, and key project costs—has been instrumental in sustaining BDCA’s Friday evening drop-in youth club in East Ham. This initiative provides a crucial safe space for young people at risk of crime and serious violence, offering opportunities to develop skills, stay active, and connect with their peers. Thanks to this partnership, more than 170 young people have benefited from 88 hours of youth club sessions.

“We are incredibly grateful to Coppermaker Square for their generous support,” said Sarah Laing, CEO at BDCA. “This funding has been instrumental in keeping our popular youth club open, providing a safe and engaging environment for our young people.”

Penny Cameron, Development Director at URW, added:

“At Coppermaker Square, we are committed to investing in the well-being of our local communities. Supporting BDCA’s youth club means more than just funding—it’s about creating a safe, inspiring space where young people can thrive, build confidence, and stay connected.”

On top of the financial support, Coppermaker Square’s generous residents donated seven large boxes of essential items to the charity’s food bank, which supports vulnerable families in the area. Dheraen Quick, Coppermaker Square’s General Manager, delivered the collection to the premises.

She said: “It’s heart-warming to see the important work the team at Bonny Downs is doing to support their local community in Newham. We are really pleased that Coppermaker Square could provide the funding to allow the youth sessions to continue, after hearing how valuable and well attended they are.

“We look forward to Coppermaker Square being a long-time supporter of Bonny Downs and working on further partnership activities in 2025.”
